St Albans Wasp Control is the definitive wasp-removal service, with a comprehensive range of treatments and programmes, providing coverage throughout the entire St Albans area. Our phone-lines are open all week every week, and we will always endeavour to send out a technician to evaluate your problem on the same day you call us.
Our consultation service is always free, so you will never have to commit to a treatment plan without knowing the extent of your infestation and the options available. Additionally, while we have never found a wasp hive we have been unable to remove, we will never charge if our removal treatment isn't a complete success, and we guarantee our work to give you extra peace of mind.
Wasps are usually only aggressive when disturbed, and when on their own they pose little threat danger, although their sting can cause severe allergic reactions in about 3-5% of people who are stung. An infestation, however, is a considerably more dangerous situation.
When close to their hives, wasps are far more likely to attack anyone they perceive as a threat to their queen, and they will send out chemical signals that cause any wasps in the immediate area to swarm out in defence of the nest. The number of wasps that fly out and sting can be anywhere from a few hundred to a few thousand, and even for people without allergic reactions this attack can be excruciatingly painful, as well as extremely distressing.
There are only a few recorded deaths from wasp-stings every year in the UK, and usually even severe allergic reactions can be treated rapidly and effectively if noticed quickly enough, but many of our customers find that the constant worry of living close to a hive can be draining, especially if there are children on a property, who will require constant supervision until the nest is removed.
Our wasp treatment programme focusses on rapidly eliminating the population of the hive without provoking a defensive swarm. Our technicians use an insecticidal compound in the form of a dust, kept in a pressurised container and sprayed directly into the hive's entrance. Since a wasp hive will typically only have one opening, we find that a precise, surgical application of insecticide to this opening will cause the maximum damage to the wasps inside with minimal damage to the nest itself.
Breaking open a nest, as many untrained individuals do when dealing with them, will not only cause more of the wasps to swarm out, but will also diffuse the intensity of the applied insecticide, so to this end our technicians come equipped with tools and fine-tipped spray lances that allow them to apply the insecticide at a safe distance.
The hive must be left overnight for treatment to take a effect, partly to give the insecticide time to work, and partly to leave time for any wasps that were outside the hive at the time of the extermination to die off (up to 50% of a hive's population will be outside foraging throughout the day). These wasps will rapidly die off once their hive has been contaminated, as they are unable to survive the night without its protection.
